Dromon Bureau of Shipping holds knowledge that is available in the form of personnel expertise, standards, databases and competent network of surveyors ensure adequate presence in major ports. Vast of the portfolio of services is concentrated in the classification and technical assessment of ships.
Classification and technical assessment of ships is in accordance to the principles verified by international practice and consists of the execution of technical requirements known as Rules for the Classification and Construction of Sea-Going Ships.
DBS confirms compliance with the aforementioned rules through a regular survey scheme carried out to ships and other marine related structures, issues the appropriate Certificate of Class, and enters the ship into the Register of Ships.
Classification of ships' related services include:
- Surveys of ship's hull
- Surveys of machinery & electrical plants
- Surveys of refrigerated cargo installations
- Approval of service suppliers such as Radio Surveyors, Thickness Gauging Firms, NDT Firms, In-water Diving Firms, etc.
The Society also carries out inspections and approvals of companies who provide testing and measurement services that are used in the survey and registration of ships and machinery as well as the maintenance of class. These include inspecting the quality system of the companies, the education, training and qualification of technical staff and other personnel engaged in providing the service, as well as inspecting the testing and measurement instruments and equipment used in the course of providing the service.
Companies found to satisfactorily meet the requirements for providing a given service are approved as recognized service providers with respect to the conduct of related surveys of ships and equipment.
At present, the Society conducts the following types of inspections and approvals for service providers:
- In-water surveys
- Plate thickness measurements
- Radio communication inspections
- Maintenance of fire fighting equipment
- Maintenance of life-saving appliances
- Performance testing of voyage data recorders
- Tightness testing of hatches using ultrasonic equipment
Dromon Bureau of Shipping Classification covers the following:
- Sea-going ships
- Inland waterways vessels
- Floating docks
- Floating cranes
Achievements
DBS being an International Classification Society holds a good reputation in the complex and demanding maritime environment. DBS has achieved a substantial growth in the acceptability of its classed ships by known European and Russian based insurance firms.
